The International Symposium “Geoadriatico. Diplomacy, economics, science and religions meet in Trieste ", promoted by Cinzia Vitale Onlus Cultural Association with the patronage of the Italian Senate of the Republic, the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was held from June 10 to 12, 2021.
Avv. Lifang Dong, President of the Silk Council Association participated as a guest speaker at the panel "Science, climate change, health and Covid" on June 12, 2021 together with other distinguished guest speakers: Emanuele Buratti, group Leader Lab. Molecular Phatology ICGEB, Mauro Giacca, Scientist of King's College London, Paola Del Negro, OGS general director, Filippo Giorgi, ICTP climate scientist Nobel Peace Prize winner, Federica Gasbarro, Forbes under 30, Stefano Polli, ANSA deputy director.
In her speech Avv. Dong pointed out that the experience of the pandemic is showing us the need to rethink international cooperation in terms of multilateralism rather than bilateralism. Today's global challenges, such as climate change, need to be faced together. Avv. Dong also stated that the Italian Presidency of the G20 is based precisely on these 3 pillars: People, Planet and Prosperity. This multilateral and ecological vision was also confirmed by President Mario Draghi at the Global Solution Summit 2021. With the Green Deal, the European Union set itself the goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions in 2050 and adopted a new strategy for sustainable growth. China also joined the fight against climate change and in September 2020 during the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations, President Xi Jinping announced the goal of wanting to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2060. Finally, Avv. Dong underlined that today China is among the main promoters of a green and sustainable development model and the fight against climate change has become an important diplomatic channel for dialogue with both the European Union and the USA, following the opening shown by the Biden administration at the World Summit on Climate Change, hosted in Washington on April 22, 2021.
The gala evening followed on the same June 12 with the delivery of the Cinzia Vitale 2021 Award to Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi, Director General of Development Cooperation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, at the Piccola Fenice Theater in Trieste, for his commitment in pursuing the objectives of solidarity between peoples, as well as the full realization of fundamental human rights, to reduction of poverty in the world and at the time of Covid-19 for having been able to contribute with resourcefulness and determination to the vaccine distribution mechanism to the poorest countries.
Attended the gala evening, among others, the climatologist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Filippo Giorgi, Roberto Di Lenarda, rector of the University of Trieste, Lawrence Banks, general director of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Stefano Ruffo, rector of the International School of Advanced Studies, Caterina Petrillo, president of the Science Park Area, Damir Murkovic, president of the Chambers of Commerce of Central Eastern Europe, Giusto Sciarabba, special adviser of the World Academy of Sciences for the progress of science in countries in development, the deputy director of Ansa Stefano Polli, Tatjana Rojc, meritorious of the Vitale Onlus, Massimiliano Fabian, dean of the Consular Corps of Trieste, Cecilia Primerano, journalist of Tg1 Rai, the Tunisian Mounir Ghribi, director of international cooperation and promotion of OGS research, Syrian imam Nader Akkad, Ariel Addad, chief rabbi of the Jewish community of Ljubljana (Slovenia), the Syrian peace ambassador Asmae Dachan, Lifang Dong, president of the Silk Council, Francesco Grambassi, president of the Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia, the president of the BCC Staranzano and Villesse Carlo Antonio Feruglio, as well as the general director of the credit institution Gabriele Bellon and again Maria Chiara Billi of the United World College of the Adriatic, Ali YoulaSiria and Flaih Hind Saad (Iraq), Tenzin Gyaltsen (India), Al Hafez Ameer (Syria), Abualatta Yousef AY (Palestine), Chen Ximu (China) and Golovina Kristina (Russia).
