On New Year's Eve, the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella gave their inaugural speeches. Both expressed the hope that 2021 will be a year of redemption and economic recovery after the severe blow inflicted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
